The mobile RPGs worth your evenings
There was a time when 'mobile RPG' meant a glorified stat screen with auto-battle. That's changed. The best ones now carry real stories and ask you to think about every fight.
When I judge an RPG now, the first thing I check is whether combat has a decision at its heart. Ashfall Saga, for instance, builds everything around swapping stances mid-fight. If I can win by tapping the same button forever, I lose interest fast.
The second test is battery and session fit. A great RPG on PC can be a chore on a phone if it demands two-hour sittings. I look for games that let me stop cleanly and pick up later without losing progress or momentum.
My advice for anyone diving in: play the first three hours before judging. Mobile RPGs often front-load the tutorial pain, and the systems you dismiss early can become the best part later on.
